The Napa/Sonoma chapter of Women for WineSense held a Finance/Accounting Roundtable in the cave of Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma Tuesday morning (9/29).

This was the fourth meeting of the group, and we used it as a working session to discuss budgeting.  We covered strategy, technique, best practices and timing.

Highlights of the discussion included ideas about how to get non-finance managers to participate, understand and be accountable to budgeting and variance reporting, the appropriate level of detail needed for different size wineries, and toggling between a budget (to which sales and operations departments are held) and forecasts (which are provided to owners, investors, and the banks.)

Discussing these relevant issues with a group of professional women in similar positions within the industry is an important service Women for WineSense provides to the wine business.
